It is false to believe that if you make your life just right, then you will be at peace. It is actually necessary to dispel this illusion.
Life is phenomena. Phenomena is always changing. Everything you set right is only right for a moment before it starts changing again. This is ebb and flow. It must be like that for everything to evolve to its next highest level. Evolution is the ruling force of life. Change is a fixed principle.
Your peace needs to be awakened from within. It must be beyond all circumstance. And it must be deeper than any flux, on the outside and inside. It must be deeper than this world, deeper than your bodily state, your emotional state, and your mental state. It must actually transcend the entire realm of change.
The only way to access peace is by entering the realm of the soul. There is no other way. Peace belongs to another realm; that is a fact. Peace only belongs to emptiness. Everything of this world, of the body, personality, and mind is phenomena. It is all in a state of movement, no matter how subtle or slight. Even inanimate things that do not appear to be moving like a table or chair are in a state of movement; it is just inperceptible to the eye. When you think you are at peace, it is only a relative state; it is a state of restfulness compared to busyness, but it is not actually peace. We misuse the word. We know peace exists, but our only access is approximate.
Without a longing for your soul, without a longing to wake up, without a longing to enter into your true internal home, what is there for you? If you do not have yourself, what do you have?
If you keep looking outward, you will gain the world, but you will never gain yourself. If you want to awaken, you must go within. If you go within, not only do you gain yourself, you will also gain the world. Unless you are one with yourself, how can you be one with anything around you? You really cannot. The slightest separation from yourself will show up in every relationship. You are the key to true oneness, true peace. It is born from within.
Most people are totally identified with thinking. If thoughts are not there, there is no sense of self. If the mind stops, they think there is nothing in the headspace, just blackness, nothing. This is how disconnected people are from their true selves. Can the mind attain peace? You need to inquire into this as honestly as you can. Most people live in the domain of the mind for their whole lives. Do you think all day? If so, you live in the mind; you do not live in reality, you live inside your head and are disconnected from your deeper self.
Unless the mind stops thinking, we cannot open enough internal space for the deeper reality of who we are to emerge. Entry into the realm of peace begins with meditation, it begins with entering the realm of non-movement; only in emptiness is perfect peace possible. Meditation only begins when we access the state beyond the mind. Through this perfect silence, we begin to meet our pure nature, and our true selves as that purity.
It is important to realize, if you do not even know who you are, if you are not living from your deepest identity as an awakened soul, then you are only ego and mind. Ego and mind live in fear. They live in separation and fear of life, others, world, and self. Most people, even seekers for a long time on the spiritual path for years, still have no idea who they are. They are doing the healing work, but the healing work is still only work on the human self. It is not yet spiritual work although their approach may be spiritual.
Spirituality only begins when we actually start to meet our spirit, our soul, our true and deeper identity beyond the human self. To truly meet yourself, you not only want to, but you must continue to want to. Awakening is not enough, your life must become one with the flow of awakening in order for things to truly change. When your life becomes a continuity of awakening, then you begin to gain access into the realm of pure rest, the true domain of the soul.
